FIFTY MINERS KILLED.
Frightful Results of an Explosion of Fir e Damp. A disaster is reported from Karwto, Austrian Silesia. An explosion of fire damp occurred in the Joannand Franziska mines. Over fifty miners are said to have been killed. Both mines are on fire, the ventilator shafts destroyed and the flames spreading in all directions. The mines are owned by Count Von Larisch. A dispatch from Troppau, June 16, says that 120 men were killed in the Franziska mine and eighty in the Joannand pit. The first explosion occurred Thursday night, June 14, and was followed by others until the extent of the calamity could not be accurately estimated. The mines were on fire for several days.
