LORD CHIEF JUSTICE COLERIDGE.

Death of the Celeb ated English Jurist Lord Chief Justice Coleridge died at London June 14. His son, Bernard, will succeed him in the peerage. It is announced that Baron Russell will succeed Lord Coleridge as Lord Chief Justice and that

Sir John Ridgby will become a lord justice of appeal in place of Baron Russell. Mr. Robert T. Reid, uow solicitor-general, will become attorney-general and Mr. B. Haldane, M. P., solicitor-general. John Duke Coleridge was the son of Sir John Taylor Coleridge, a distinguished English, jurist, and nephew of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the poet. He was born in Devonshire in 1821, and educated at Eton and Oxford, receiving the degree oi M. A. in 1816. Ho entered Parliament in 1565 as a liberal member from Exeter. In 1880, on the death of Sir Alexander Cochran. he became Lord Chief Justice of England.
