ANOTHER HIGH-TONED CONVICT.

Erastaa Wiman Found Guilty of Forgery in the Second Degree, Erastus Wiman, the noted financier and philanthropist, arrested last winter or. charges of forgery preferred by R. G. Dunn & Co., his former partners, was tried at New York, the case being given to the jury, Friday. After an hour and fifty-five minutes’ deliberation the verdlcl of “Guilty of forgery in the second degree” was returned with a recommendation to tho mercy of the court. Judge Ingraham remanded Mr. Wiman for sentence until Vyednesday, Juno 20, and tho defendant was taken, to tho Tombs prison. Tho maximum limit! of imprisonment Is ten years for tho offense, but tho judge has the power to fix it at any time from one day if he so desires.! A verdict of acquittal was confidently expected by Mr. Wiman and h’s attorneys, because the prosecution failed to snow criminal intent, although tho specific acts of forgery were not denied.
