Jofieph Diem, who died ’in Constance a few days ago, began life as a Bavarian cowherd, ami became later one of the most famous violincellists in Europe. He,received his musical education at the conservatory in Munich, and, under Cassman, in Weimar. He went' to Moscow for a time and taught in the conservatory there.
