ODDS AND ENDS.

Ordinary blotting paper in white, gray or buff makes excellent mats for home-framed engravings and prints. In buying towels the housewife will remember that large towels are considered to be the most economical purchase. Coarse bread, plenty of exercise and a daily hand friction to stimulate the tissues are the only good remedies for pallid cheeks. Coffee should be bought “in the bean" and not already ground. It retains its flavor much longer if it is ground freshly before each making. Dandruff may be removed by using a thimbleful of borax in a teacup of water, first brushing the head and then rubbing the scalp with the solution. Paraffine paper is the best possible material for curliug papers, as it keeps the hair soft and' glossy. Paper and kid crimpers will cause the hair to break off. Some farmers make it a point to produce enormous hogs, and the weights are published as news, but it is doubtful if such hogs are as profitable as those that are of medium size. Tea stains if not washed out at once are very troublesome to get rid of. Pure gelatine well rubbed in is said to be an efficient cleanser for stains of long standing. Boiling milk will remove fruit stains. A thoroughly reliably hair tonic is the following one: Bay rum. twe ounces; glycerine, two ounces; tincture cantharides, one drachm; oil bergamot, thirty drops; sulphate ol quinine, ten grains; water, four ounces. It is very vexing and annoying t< have one’s lip break out with cole sores, but it is better to have them out than in. A drop of warm mutton suet applied to the sores at night just before retiring will soon caust them to disappear. The best thing perhaps in whicl to keep silverware is a canton flannel or green baize bag or case.
