OBITUARY.

Marietta Alice (Coppess) Osborne, was bom Sept. 16, 1867. Departed this life Dec Bth, 1898. Aged 26 years, 2 months and 22 days. She married William F. Osborne March 24th, 1887. Etta, as she was generally called, joined the M. E. church when quite young, being impressed that she had a duty to perform which no one else could do. Her sickness which was of that lingering, though fatal disease, consumption, began its work some three years ago. During this long and gloomy period she showed great Christian fortitude in bearing the pain and anguish incident to a disease which all know to be fatal. Before she died she left a bright evidence that her peace was made with God. “I am ready;” “He’s coming;” “The Savior is coming” were some of the expressions she made a short time before she died.

In our mention of the death of the late John Lefler, of Hanging Grove, we understated his age a few years, and also the time of his coming to Jasper county. His true age, at the day of his death, was 78 years, 11 months and 2 days. The year of his first arrival in’ Jasper county was 1836; and the beginning of his permanent residence here, was one year later, or 1837. Few indeed, among our surviving old settlers, are they who ante-date him on time of residence in this county.
