The big wind of last Thursday night blew off several joints from the light station’s smoke stack. Gall at Laßue Bros, the cheap cash giocers, to see the biggest, best and cheapest line of Holiday goods. Application has been made in St. Louis for the appointment of a rece'iv er to wind up the sffairs of the Guarantee Investment Company, the well known institution of which Geo. M. McDonald is president. The hearing of the application is set for to-day. The beautiful fairy scene, in the Christmas cantata, to-morrow night, will alone be worth the price of admission and the trouble of attending. F. M. Millikan, of Indianapolis, secretary of the State Republican Central Committee, was in town Monday. There was no politics .in his visit, he being here on business as the state loan agent of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., of Milwaukee, Wis. Miss Nellie Manning has played the part of Galatea in all the princi - pal cities of the country, and every - where with the greatest favor of the public. Don’t fail to hear her at the. Opera House, next Thursday n ight, Dec. 21st. C. B. Harrold, local editor of the Pilot , has this week issued the first number of a monthly paper to be devoted to the interest of the order of Sons of Veterans, in Indiana. Its name is “The Indiana Sentinel.” We wish Bro. Harrold success in his new venture. i See the 20 lb. candy barber’s pole, in J. Q. Alter’s store. Logan and Dallas Nichols, two young fellows from Barkley tp., were tried before Judge Morgan, Tuesday, on the charge of disturbing a literary meeting, at Independence school house, in Barkley. There were a whole clond of witnesses, on both sides. Babcock, of south Manontp., and one of Jasper connties solidest young men, and Miss Avanell Daugherty, daughter of Tbos. R. Daugherty, were married yesterday, at the residence of the bride’s parents, a few miles southeast of town. The ceremony was performed by Rev. B. F. Ferguson. The newly married couple have gone to Chicago, for a few days.
