REMINGTON ITEMS.
From The Press. Mr. W. H. Shaw who has been seriously ill for the past week, is reported much better. J. W. Thomas’ new residence in the southeast part of town is about completed and is an ornament to that part of our city. The Press editor left for Chicago yesterday morning to secure surgical treatment for a membranous growth upon one of the eye-balls, which has been causing him considerable pain and anxiety for the past few months.
We learn that James S. Shreffier and his brother have traded their stock of general merchandise at Manila, lowa, for a large farm in southern lowa, and Jas. S and family will remove to the farm by Dec. Ist. Smith, Hargreaves <fc Co., have moved into their new rooms in the Durand block, pod we understand that Miss Maude Lally has leased the room Vacated by them and will put m a complete line of dry goods and furnishings.
Dr. Traugh returned yesterday from Woodward, Oklahoma, and reports the new town as progressing finely. His opponents in the contested land case asked for a continuance, which was granted by consent of all parties concerned. Mr. E. F. Emery received a draft from the Panhandle company Wednesday morning for $603, in payment for damages sustained by the burning over of bis meadows and the loss of several stacks of bay, caused by fire from the railroad last August. The action of the town council in ordering the marshal to-secure deputies and remain upon the streets all night Halloween, had the effect of keeping the boys from committing the usual amount of deviltry. The marshal and his six deputies patroled the streets from 6 a. m. to 6 p. m. and Wednesday morning the town presented the same quiet, respectable appearances as usual.
