REMINGTON ITEMS.
Harvey Hartman was ordained deacon and Dr. 4. P. Ramsey and W. 0. Roadifer were ordained elders in the Presbyterian church last Sunday. It may- interest those who are not familiar with the rules, usages and regulations of that church to know that the oflice of the gentleman first mentioned is to look after financial matters: the other two after the spiritual interests of the church. (Quite a number of the old soldiers left on Monday morning to attend the grand encampment at Indianapolis, where they expect to have a good time. We know they ought to have the best of all the country affords, Hoke Smith to the contrary, notwithstanding. On Wednesday of this week the marriage of Dr. John Tipton Wheeler and Miss Grace Rawles will take place at the home of the bride’s mother in Bloomington. The cards of invitation announce that they will be at home to their friends after October Ist, in Decatur, 111. The bride is a native Remingtonian and the many friends of the family in this place will wish the newly wedded couple a long and happy life. William Rich, of Elwood, made a flying visit with Remington friends, returning to Elwood Monday of this week. The many friends of Miss Carrie McKee be to learn that she is recovering from a painful and somewhat p|.'Otfh c^et f attack of malarial fever,
TliC people who leave for other localities are generally giad to return to the old stamping ground. George Bull and family, who went to Colorado last spring, intending to make that state their future abiding place, came back last week. Robert Shearer, of Marion, and T. J. Locke, of Kankakee, 111., have also expressed a desire to return and will probably do so in the near future. Miss Theo, Vickery returned last week from Chicago. She will attend school in this place this winter. Mrs. W. B. Price and daughter Helen and Misses Anna and Winifred Draper left for Hartford City last Saturday, the former for her home and the two latter as teachers in the public schools of Hartford City and Montpelier, respectively. Miss Bolles, Miss Hattie Chappell and Miss Orpha Timmons came home last Friday from the great World’s Fair. Miss Maude Lally left last Saturday for a visit with relatives in Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott and daughter Miss Florence, are visiting with Hon. George Major and family, prior to their removal from Kentland to Elwood. Miss Florence who, although quite young, is an accomplished musician, goes to DePauw University for a thorough collegiate course.
Sherman A. Stephenson, a young man of this township, left for parts unknown last week after obtaining quite a sum of money fraudulently from the Citizen’s Bank in this place. Mrs. J. Sheffier and daughter Gladys, of lowa, were the guests of Hon. Robert Parker and family, last week. Some interesting statistics as to the membership and finances of ti»e Methodist church in this place were given last Sunday morning by the pastor, in a review of the work of the past two years When Mr. De-
Long came to this place he found 138 members. He leaves the charge at the end of the second year with the membership just exactly double, being 276. From a six hundred dollar | appointment it has been raised to ■ nine hundred and all the church benevolences have received liberal contributions Mr. De Long and his excellent wife have the respect and esteem of all our people regardless of S'■<■: < r creed, and if they are returned to this place they will be heartily welcomed.
