BABY M’KEE’S BURRO.
And Some Recollection* of Other Celebrated Donkeys. Indianapolis Sentinel. A distinguished visitor has arrived in the city from Colorado Springs. It was a burro weighing 450 pounds, consigned by J. F. Soldomridge to Benjamin Harrison as a present for Baby McKee. It is not known whether the express agents had the same difficulty that they did in one other case which happened some* 3 time ago. Ten. Sherman lived in St. Louis then and a burro was shipped him rom some point in the West. The express messenger when he got to St. Louis, not understanding the meaning of the word “burro,” reported his way bill to the office with the indorsement: “Short one bureau and long one jackass.’’ Another story of a similar character is told on’ ex-Senator Evarts. He has a beautiful summer home at Windsor Vt., and in the summer a very old, demure-looking donkey may be seen roaming over the meadows as he chooses. Some years ago he had the donkey sent home as a present to his daughter, now grown to womanhood. The donkey was very lonesome the first few days after his arrival, and -the little girl wrote to her father in New York: “Jack came all right, but I do wish you would come home, he is so lonesome.”
