Babies Rented by the Day.
Boston Traveler. It is said to be not uncommon ta rent babies to beggars for the purpose of exciting the sympathy of the charitably disposed, but renting babies to childless millionaires for the gratification of their motherly instincts seems to be quite a new business. It is said to be followed by a young widow in New York, who is the happy mother of a very beautiful and sprightly girl of five years of age. She put an advertisement in the papers: “To rent, by the hour or day, for the entertainment of wealthy but childless ladies, a bright, beautiful, golden-haired little girl baby." She is said to have found at once many'customers who were glad to purchase the child’s companionship at |2 a day, and thus she makes quite a revenue, besides having her little one cared for and entertained while she, the mother, Is pursuing her daily duties as a, typewriter. The child enjoys the arrangement much better than being left at home, or with a neighbor, while her mother is busy at her office. Mrs. Wickwire—Dear, what is this “Societe de Pots” which is mixed up in the Panama scandal? Mr. Wick wire—l guess it was some sort of a poker club.
