We Are Excusable.

Washington Star, “Speaking about counterfeiting and the ability of the average man to detect spurious bills,” said a treasury official, “what security is there when the Treasurer of the United States is himself deceived and accepts had money? Yet this frequently happens, and only this, month no less than three bills were received by the treasurer and their spuriousness discovered In the redemption department. Two were $2 bills and it would appear that these bills are the most expertly counterfeited. They wereMetected by one of the ladies employed in the redemption department and she is probably the most expert handler of money In the world. One bill was proved spurious by the fact that the initial “T” of the name ‘T. E. Spinner’ was the sixteenth of an inch to the right from being directly under the ‘D’ of the letters ‘D. C.’ Well, when counterfeiting has arrived at such a stage oh expertness it becomes almost a matter of hazard to accept any bills:” Mr. Chas.
