The Battle Of Cows Run.
IS HOW THE VICTORY OP THE COWS CA£T RUN. i _x The Town Board, at their regular monthly meeting Monday evening, met in their own town hall, for the first time in many months. The ordinance restraining cows from running at large came up for final action, and was passed. All the members voted for it except A. Woodworth, who favored a compromise measure, which would let the cows run while grass grew loxariant in the spring-time. A petition signed by 125 names was presented in favor of the ordinance, and one signed by 97 names opposing it. C. Borntrager was advanced $lO9 on his gutter work. The members of the fire company were allowed $1 each for fighting the mill fire. J. Jessen presented a bill for balance claimed on Cornelia street sewer. Ellis and Clerk Spitler appointed to settle with him. i
The proposed new democratic legislative gerrymander bill, puts Jasper, Newton and White counties together fora senator; and leaves Jasper and Newton together fora representative. A man whose name we did not learn, died at St. Joseph’s College last Friday. He lately came from Ohio, in a hopeless condition, and was taken back there for burial Prof. J. W. Cad well, is giving exhibitions in hypnotism and mesmerism at the Opera House, this week. Hi will remain all this week, giving exhibitions every evening, except Friday evening. He is unquestionably a hypnonist of remarkable ability, and gives a most amusing and surprising entertainment. The Wabash Plain Dealer is threatened with a libel suit. In describing the origin of a fire in a grocery store it stated that the proprietor had hung his old socks in the potato bin and the discarded footwear took fire from spontaneous combustion. “Socks” should have read “sacks,”— old gunny sacks in which cured meats had been kept. The groceryman is a candidate for the poatmastership and think the erroneous item has injured his chances.
