MISCELLANEOUS XOTES.

M. Pasteur will be 70 years old on Dee. 27. Great Britain coal mines will last SCO years. About 10,000 gross of pens arc produced from a ton of steel. The Boston Post has been sued for nine cents by the Boston & Albany railroad. By virtue of his office the Lord Chief Justice is the principal coroner of England. It is quite possible fur-folks to shine intellectually without being light headed. Miss Sopbronia Breckinridge, a daughter of the Kent’Acky Congressman. has recently been admitted to the bar.

In the legal profession the American woman is now making her way against much opposition. As yet only a limited number of States admit her to the bar, still seven women have been adinitfecl to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States. Both the Chicago Legal News and the Chicago Law Time?, are edited by women lawyers, and several legal associations have been formed, including the Equity Club and the Woman’s International Bar Association. In Wyoming and Washington the mixed jury system has been tried with success, and in Montana the greatest of all triumphs has been scored by the election of Ella Knowles to the office of Attorney General, an honor never before accoraed to a woman. Miss Knowles •is a graduate of Bates College uud studied her profession in the East. When she went to Montana', she saw the law prohibited woman’s admission to the bar, but she secured the repeal of tl.c obnoxious law. and has ever since been practicing with success and profit.
