On our second page is a statement" showing conclusively, the falsity of the charge that our county officials have piled np ai unnecessarily, and unusually large balance in the county treasury. A rather exciting fire occured Wednesday evening of last week, about 6 o’clock, although not a very extensive one. An old building originally built as an implement warehouse, by John Eger, and situated on Harrison st back of Bums’ livery stable, rad bnt a short distance from the rear of the town hall, was the scene of the fire. The fire had made a big start when first discovered, and before the fire company could reach the scene, it was beyond hope of extinguishment Some hay straw and other inflammable substance was in the building, and the fire made quick work. Inside the building was about S4O worth of new gabs fruit jars, belonging to John Eger, rad about SIOO worth of farming implements, the property of his toother, W. H. Eger. The most serious loss however fell upon Alien Gray, in the loss of two good young horses, which were stabled in one end of the building. They were worth about S2OO, rad the loes, to him, is a pretty serious one. The boilding was worth perhaps about SIOO. There was no insurance on any of the burned property. The origin of the fire is not known. The fire company did good service in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings, snob as Barns’ livery stable on the east and S. Healey’s tenant house, on the west.
