The resideht. Indian lans arc “bustling” with mncll vigor in behalf of tho Hoosler capitai. • ; --—-—*- - The veterans laid out a big program fur Monday evetrhtg, and many of them, when they retired for the night, mnst have been weary enough to camp out in the old military fashion. Reunions were the order of the night, and around tho campfires comrades told war stories and saug war songs. Tbe Eighteenth and Twentyeighth corps held a reunion in the Thomas tent. It was in the Eighteenth corps that President Harrison served in the eailypartof the war, and the meeting sent a telegram to hip expressive of sympathy and also regret at his absence Uen. O, O, Howard presided over the reunion, and speeches wore made by General Bullerch, of New nampßb!re;Gcneral Lockeian, of New York; General Ilurvt, 9? Ohio; Marshal D. M. Rnusdell and. others. ‘ Marching Through Georgia’ was the favorite song. The eloctric Illumination of the city in honor of the veterans was on a scale never before attornpted in Washington, and Pennsylvania avenue, from tho capitol to Seventeenth street, was ablaze with colored lights. Eveiy available dynamo in tho city, public and private, had been bronght Into requisition and numbers o ol hers had been shipped there especially for this display. A monster parade took place Tuesday Illinois hadjlfc-place or honor in the panicle, being next to headquarters. Indiana ovule a fine dlspluy, as she does iu everything sho undertakes. Kentucky, with 1.500 men. led bv lien. Hobson, had the largest, representation. INDIA X OLISySETS THK PEUM. The Grand Army Encampment met at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. The proceedings were in executive session at it was tntE “difßculty that any outsiders could gain admission to Albaugh’s opera house, where the meeting was held. After a good deal of persuation CommanderinChief Palmer agreed tc admit thelndiaiittpoils glee ciuh for five minutes. This was all the time tho boys wanted. They sang just two songs in praise of Indianapolis and fairly enraptured tho audience. One of their songs was “Como, Oh, Come.” The delegates cried “Vote, vote,” after Gov. Chase had briofiy presented tho claims of Indianapolis. Before Gen. Carnahan could finish reading the Commercial club’s invitation tho din became so great that he desisted from his attempt to bo beam. ‘•Worhave heard enough; tho lloosier city is the place.” shouted individuals in the audience. I An Ohio man moved that the nexten' ■ campment be held at Indianapolis, and It was agreed to by acclamation. The time of holding tho encampment has not yet been decided, but it will probably be the first week iu September. The “council of i administration” lias tho matter under I consideration. Having recovered somowhat from their exuberance tho Indianlans have now begun to realize and appreciate the enormity of the task that is before thr citizens of Indianapolis. The I Washington encampment has been such a grand success that Indianapolis mnst make herculean efforts if her entertainment of tho Grand Army veterans oven approaches tho present encampment. The ■Washington citizens raised a fund of $90,000, Congress appropriated $50,G00. and it I Is understood tiiat after expending all of ! this the Washington committee finds itself about I,tXX) In debt. The Detroit encumpment last year was a magnificent success also, and the old saldier? find it [hard tosey which of the two cities has given the handsomest cniertainmen It is probable that the Indianapolis citizens will be called upon to at least double the f.'0,0 >0 already raised and tho Legislature will be asked to make an appropriation iu addition.
