The Town Beard.
Departments, Entertainment and Literary, of Rensselaer Chapter, Epworth League, No. 2672, will give v musical in the Trinity M. E. church, Wednesday evening, Sept. 21, Standard selections— both vocal and instrumental musie, will be rendered by the best talent of the town. The League has procured the use of an excellent piano for this entertainment, and all are cordially invited to attend. After the entertainment, refreshments will be served. AU. for. 10 cents, which wiU be charged at the door. -• A The Rensselaer Stock. Farm was “at their old tricks” .at Crawfordsville, last week. Belle Medium got first money in a SBSO race; Rensselaer Wilkes did as well m a $250 race, and made a 2:30 record m doing it Edina got third money in still another race. In the show ring everything in sight was taken, five first premiums being the trophies. Wilkes was especially successful in the show ring, taking Ist prize for 2 year old stallions and also Ist sweepstakes prize, for stallions of any age. The eolt was the observed of all and his keeper estimated that of the 40,000 people at the fair Thursday, 30,000 caUed at his stall. Of course the keeper’s imagination was a little excited, when he made the statement.
W. C. Shead resigned as watch,&ndWiilifi'McCollywasappointed to succeed him. Messrs. Ellis and Wasson were appointed a committee to procure and seU corporation bonds to the amount of $16,000, running 5, 10 and 15 years. In the Washington street improve ment matter, John Jessen offers to make the sewer at 49 cts per foot from the bridge to Van Rensselaer street, and at 40 cts per foot, the rest of the way. Chas. Borntrager bids on the gutters at 95 cts per lineal foot. J. T, Sayler’s bid on the crushed stone work was evidently based on a muscalculation and the matter is temporarily held in abeyance. John Jessen got the contract for the Cornelia St. sewer at 46 cents per foot. P
