The World’s Pair and Friday.
Ex-Congressman Frank Lawler has probably concealed from his Chicago constituents the fact that he believes in superstition. In all likelihood he would deny it if the charge were made. Duriug the early stages of the filibustering against the World’s Fair appropriation Mr. Lawler svas asked if he expected the bill to pass. The House had just agreed to the amendment to the Sundry Civil bill making an appropriation of $5,000,000. “I hope we will get that Amount; we certainly need it,” said he: When thecomproroise of $5c,500,000 hod been agreed on in the Democratic caucus on Tuesday he was again asked his opinion fck to the probability of the programme being carried out. The Chicagoan's face brightened up aud he said with a mysterious smile; “The bill will be passed on Friday.” “Why Friday?" he was asked. “Don’t say I’m superstitious if I tell you,” he said, in a confidential tone, “Do you know the original bill providing for the Exposition passed on Friday, that it was adopted by the Senate on Friday, and signed by the President on Friday? Tne commission was announced on Friday and the Fair will be opened on Friday. Furthermore we believo that Columbus landed on Friday. Now do you wonder at my prophecy? But don't say anything about this. My Chicago friends might laugh and say I was superstitious."
