If any honest voters of any . party, are inclined to doubt the truth of the facts in regard to taxation that the Republican is giving, and to put faith in the slanderous assertions of the reckless, irresponsible and anonymous gang that controls the editorial columns of the People's Pilot, let them go to the court house and make a complete investigation of the taxes, as they actually appear upon the tax duplicates and abstracts. Or, if there is any real ■1 esire to know the truth of the matter, regardless of political consequences, left in that rapidly disintegrating organization, the Farmers’ Alliance of Jasper County (disintegrating because of the treachery of those who have forced the order into politics) let the Alliance appoint a committee, and fully investigate the matter, ft is the paper which professes to I be the order’s own particular organ, which makes these charges, tftid if the order really wishes to know, the truth and to have other people know it, let them make the investigation. Here are the’ issues. v. a lhe Pilot says that “local taxes” have been increased from $16,000 ,t.u 18,000. We say the increase is inly $13,251.55 The Pilot says Republican
county officials are responsible for ] all this increase. We say that they are responsible only ' for 81648 of the increase and that for the rest of the increase, namely 811,071, township trustees, some Re pilblican and soine Democratic, , and town boards are responsible. The Pilot says or continually intimates, that this increase was for corrupt purposes, or for political advantage. We “assert that the levies were made honestly, and that every dollar of the taxes will be rightly expended, and that it will all be needed for the purposes for which it is i collected. Learn what the whole, absolute truth is about this matter, gentlemen, and then make it known, hurt whom it may..
