The Passing of Patton.
Under date of June 28, 1892, Dr. D, H. Patton wrote to H. A. Barnhart, of Rochester,' chairman •of the Democratic central Committee for the Tenth Congressional District, formally declining, to be a candidate for re-nomination. In his letter he says that he “Is well satisfied that there are others in this Congressional District who are much better qualified and better fitted to represent the people in Congress than myself;”—a proposition which may be allowed to pass without question,-in fact such a man has already been found in a very eminent degree, and “which his game is” is William Johnson, of Valparaiso. •’ In regard to the Hon. Dr. Patton himself, in whom a good phy-
; • - . V- 3 sician was spoiled to make an awful poor Congressman, it may be' truly said that bs has taken the wisest course for his political and financial welfare. And, so far as The itself is conkerned, while we have not been sparing of .our criticism of the gentleman’s political and official acts, we will say that personally we bearhim no ill-will, and greatly hope thot when he returns so private life after the 4th day next March that' he will be able to take hack to Remington 'with him wad of wealth saved from his Congressional salary, and to there resume so much of his old time medicate practice as he cares to look after, and ; to gratify his well'trained Kentuc®y taste for fast hordes? 5 ? And so ends the history of Pafcton in politics. -
