A sad occurence took place on Wednesday- of last week, in Union township, ia the family of Austin N. Lakin, a well-known resident of that township. It seems that Mr. Lakin had trone into his fields to work, takO- .la ing with him the Qlder one of his two children, and Mrs. Lakin mistakenly supposed that he had taken them both! 'The youngest child, between twa and three years old, was sleeping in a bed-room, instead of being with the father, as Mrs. Lakin supposed. She, thinking both children were with the father* went to her mother’s, about a mile distant. When the parents both returned home they found the Child missing and after a search found it dead, ia about 8 or 10 inches of water, about three quarters of a mile from home. It had evidently started to follow up its mother, and having wandered intd the water had fallen down upon its face and being weak from exhaustion was unable to rise again.
