SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON.
Sunday June 26, 1892. , Messiah’s REitar.-Text-Ps. 72:1-19. Supt 1. Give the king thy judgements, 0 God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s sons. School. 9. He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor w Ith judgment. 3. The mountains shall bripg peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. 4 He shall judge the poor of the people* he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. 5. They shall fear thee as long as thy sun and moon endure; throughout all gen-l orations. \ 8. He shall come down like rain on the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. 7. In his days shall the righteous flour 1 ish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth, 8. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, aud from the rlvdr unto the ends of the earth. 9. He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight. 15. And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually: and daily shall he be praised, 16. There shall bo an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains: the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the eity shall flourish like grass of the earth. 17. His name shall endure forever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. 18. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth woundrous things. 19. And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen and Amen.

Introduction.—Time —The date of this psalm cannot be fixed with certainty; but if it belongs to Solomon, as its title suggests, it falls within the years of his reign, B. 0. 1015975. The title marks j it “A Psalm for Solomon,” or rather a Psalm of Solomon, as in the Revised Version. The imagery of the verses is plainly taken from the reign of this glorious king, but its predictions point to a state of universal peace and joy which can only be fulfilled in the perfect rule of the One who is “greater than Solomon” —the Messiah himself. (Verse 20 of "the psalm is not here given, because it was merely added by the--e©tOpflers to mark the closeoftHe second book of Psalms, which was thought to include all written by David.) \ THE LESSON STATEMENT. 1 The king hero prays for God’s gifts, of judgment and'righteousness that he may govern the people-aright. He pictures a coming reign of peace,and a wise and good ruler who shall ever; befriend and lift up the oppressed. : f His kingdom shall through -the ages,and his dominion shall reach to the ends of the earth. All kings shall bow before him in adoration, and all nations serve him. The origin of his on the human side, is so small that it fL#pmpaJ:ed to “A handful of while its growth is it is finally Ukened to the mighty forest of Lebanon/ The Ruler of this glorious kingdom shall reign forever, and “all nations shall call him blessed.” The Psalm doses with an exhortation to bless God, and “let the whole earth b« filled with His glory.’*
