The festival at Saylerville, last Saturday evening, was a right pleasant affair, in spite of the bad weather; and netted over s2o* towards buying an organ for the Saylerville Sunday School. The proceeds of the Fourth of July celebration at the same place Will be devoted to the same object. We hear that our old medical and sporting friend Dr. Caldwell, of Mt. Ayiyand his son Mack made & big strike when they bought of J. G. Reynolds the thoroughbred horse Alva. The horse bad been “bunged up* on the race track and Caldwell got him for SSOO and has since been offered SSOOO. Eight fine thorough* bred mares from Chicago have been among his patrons this year.

A disabled vestibule car now standing on a side-track at the Rensselaer depot, is evidence of a close escape from a bad wreck, last Monday morning. The outer end of one of the *d shafts broke off, as the train nearing the depot, and this * let <»e front Corner of the .entire truck frame, including brake and brake beam, springs &*., fall down upon the track, thus putting the entire train in the most imminent danger of a complete wreck. By good luck, however, the frame bumped along over the ties until the station was : reached, when the car was shunted off on the side-track, and left. The train was heavily loaded with passenger bound for the Chicago oonTention.

Frank Ketchmark and Theresia McCue were married at the Catholic church in San Pierre, last Tuesday. The groom is one of our progressive and enterprising farmers and we wish him and his better half much joy. Day was a success hotwithstanding the Tact that Wheatfield choir returned home a little sad at heart because the judges pronounced •Duinville th'e best singers. Dunnville was far a head if they 9 did sing the “Red, White, and Blue” 'iHthout any colors. They were generous and let Wheatfield carry the flag, even if they could not sing in honor of it, and notwithstanding Dunnville had a fine flag of its own. - * The parties interested met last Friday night and decided to have a Township Graded school, by a vote of twenty-seven for and five against. The new school house will be a two story building and work will be commenced on it as soon as possible. 'Kankakee is fast coming to the front in educational matters and the people take a great interest in school work, _ - - Old Harper.
