A Trick for Sportsmen.
st Louis Globe Democrat. “If I were a gambling toau I could win lots of money on my ability to shoot a hole through a four-inch pine plank with ordinary bird shot,” said B. L. Houston, of Fort Wayne, Ind., at the Laclede- The way to do it is this: Take a blank cartridge and load it yourself, putting the powder in first, of course. Then on top of this powder place your wad and ram it down well. Put in a second wad, but be careful to leave a slight space between the two. Then pour in your shot and fill the remaining end of the shell with damp paper. Now with a keen blade cut around the shell just between the two wads, and when you blaze away at the four-inch plank you will, discover to your surprise that your load shot a hole through the board. In no other way can shot be made to penetrate so thick a plank.”
