The Special Session.
H® lew Iron Fence Doctoring the Poor and Other Matters. The county commissioners ‘were in* special session, last Friday Rad Sat-, urday. and a full Board present. Friday the joint session with the Newton Co. Board was held, in regard to the Sage Ditch matter., The report of the reviewers was approved and the ditch ordered established. Tli o contract for an iron fence around the court house square was awarded to the Barbee Wire and Iron Works, of Lafayette. The style of fence is substantial and sufficiently ornamental, but not excessively so. The pickets will be 40 inches long, and 5-8 inches in diameter. The gate and end posts will be large and ornamental. It wifi have double
gates at the cement waits, and single gates at the east and south entrances, and a drive gate on lhe west iidc. The total cost, including gales, posts and erection, is 84| cents per lineal fr'it —oryalmost ex icily $925 for the tntire feu or. Two other parties submitted bids, on the same style of fence: The Frankfort Fence Co., with a bid aggregating $63 more than the Barbee’s bid, and the Muncie Fence Co., whose bid was 96 cents per foot. The fence is to be completed on'or before June Ist. The resignation of Hezekiah Kessler, as trustee of > ilroy township, was received and Mr. Kessler’s accounts and vouchers examined and Ibuud to be correct. The Rensselaer Division Uniform Bank, Knights of Pythias were rented the county’s vacant lot, cast of and fronting the public square, for a period ©f 15 years, at an annual rental cf SB. The absence of the township of Hanging Grove, in the above list, results from the fact that the commiss - loners thought that the only bid renetved for that township was" too high for the service likely to be required. For many years past the physicians who have had the contract for that township have had nothing to do to earn their salary, except to draw it. The Rensselaer doctors are conspicuous by their absence in the above. None of them submitted any bids.
