A Washington special to the Indianapolis Journal says: Dr. Tilden, formerly chemist at the National Medical Museum, speaking of Guiteau, President Garfield’s assassin, said that the assassin went to the scaffold in a semi-drunken condition. “This,,” added the Doctor, “was a necessity. You are aware that when the squad of soldiers entered the jail rotunda a short while before the execution, and carpe.to order arms with a loud bang, Guiteau fell over in a dead faint. His nervous system was shattered, and the physicians felt they would be unable to get him to the scaffold. A consultation was held, and it was decided to give him a dose of brandy.
