A Sure Enough Fire.
AND ONE OLD FIRE TRAP LESS] IN RENSSELEAR. At about two o’clock yesterday afternoon fire was discovered issuing from the roof of ELL. Hollingsworth’s old frame building situated between McCoys’ bank and A. F. Long’s drug store. The building in which the fire was discovered was occupied below as a harness shop by J. H. Peacock and above bv him as residence. The fire company was immediately called out, but the fire had made such headway, in the the attic of the building that every effort to save it was unavailing. = By prompt work of the citizens all of Mr. Peacock's" goods and tools were removed to a place of safety and also a considerable part of his household goods, from the rooms above. For a time there was great (langer tlmt-theLire cate to one or both of the adjoining brick building and nothing but the most strenuous exertions upon the part of the firemen and citizens prevented that result. As it was, the Kaunal building, occupied below by Long’s drug store and above by J, C. Williams’ photograph gallery, was considerably damaged, both by fire and water. — Mr. Long’s go als and. fixtures w-re nearly all carried out and weie, of course, considerably d imaged. Mr. Williams alto suffered considerable loss upon his implem nits and; stock also interruption to business and from damage *j, no to his sky and side lights, backgrounds Ac. The burned building was insured for SSOO, which will probably fully cover the loss. The damage to the Kannal building also is covered by insurance Mr. Peacock had no insurance. Great credit is clue to the fire company, for to their well-directed efforts the salvation of the Kaunal building is certainly due, and, very probably of the Trade Palaceand no one knows bow many other adjoining buildings. The origin of the fire is not known positively, but probably was from a defective flue. A number of women rendered good assistance by carrying wafer. Mr. Long estimates the damage done to his store, by moving, water at SSOO. The insurance will cover all his loses.
