SEVEN PERSONS KILLED.
Terrible Results of a Tug Boat Explosion *t Chicago. A boiler explosion aboard the steam tug p. W. Parker killed seven persons and seriously injured many others in the neigh" borhood of Archer avenue bridge, on the south branch of the river, Chicago, about 4:30 p. m. Sunday. The tug C. W. Parker, in company with three other tugs, was engaged in attempting to tow the coal steamer 11. S, Pickands out of the draw of the bridge when the explosion occurred. Three of the killed were employes of the tug and their bodies have not yet been recovered. The other persons killed were standing on the banks of the river wherea number of spectators had I een drawn to witness the removal of the steamer Pickands, which arrived Saturday from Buffalo with a cargo of coal. The vessel had run aground in the draw and four tugs were putting forth every effort to move it when one of them, the C. W. Parker, exploded. John Michaels, of Clinton county, a promipent member of the Duukard church, has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for criminally assaulting his daughter. Spain has decided to adopt a modern rifle for its army and to experiment with 1 smokeless powder. 1
