The Great Wakarusha Drainage Scheme.

Surveryors Dunn and J. E. Alter, with their corps of assistants last Sat, completed’ the preliminary survey of the prososed Wakrusha or Big Slough ditch, or more properly, drainage • scheme, and this week will present their report to the County Commissioners. Although it does not begin to equal the proposed Iroquois and Pinkamink ditch, it is,lcy far, much larger than any ditch ever constructed wholly, or in part in Jasper county, and lias a good prospect of being carried to completion, which can hardly be said of the Iroquois ditch, at present. The main line of the ditch fro m its head in White Co. to its outlet in the Iroquois River' below Rensselaer, is 16 miles and 1993 feet in length.Q The length of the laterals, 17 in num her, sub-laterals, spurs &c: as surveyed and reported upon, is nearly 62£ miles, giving a total length of the whole system of over 784 miles. The proportion of miles of the ditch in Jasper and White counties has not been accurately figured out but one of the surveyors thinks that at least nine tenths of the ditch is in Jasper county. The extent of country to be drained by the whole system is estimated at 40,000 acres. A meeting of petitioners and others likely to be affected, will be held in the court house at I o’clock, next Saturday, to discuss the ditch and, suggest possible amendments to the viewer’s report.
