County Institute Resolutions.
We the teachers of Jasper County with the hope of furthering the en - terest of education, offer the following resolutions to our school officials and friends of education: , akt. 1. Since the pride of Indiana will not permit her to lose the high rank in educational exhibits, Be it resolved , That the request of our State Committee of the Worlds’ Fair for each teacher to contribute live cents, and each pupil one cent, be complied with as far as possible. art. 11. Since one of the fundamental principles of the school room is to instil into the mind of the pupil patriotism. Be it resolved , That the township trustees would further its development by plaeing a flagon each school house. 2 art. 111. Since the branches taught in our district schools no nearer fit a country pupil for the the duties of life than the same branches would fit a city pupil, =s= Be it resolved. That it is the duty of the trustee to provide, as soon as possible, a school in each township in which the pupils of the township may have the advantages of a higher ebucation than that afforded in ungraded schools. art .IV. Since the township trustees have recognized that it is good that the teachers come together as h body as often as possible, and since they have agreed to allow the teachers pay for one day at the County Annual Association. Be it resolved, That this should not take the place of a township institute. art. V. Since our County Superintendent has been so zealous in*his efforts to further the interests of this institute and the interests of education in the County, Be it resolved , That we as teacher give him our unqualified support in the discharge of his duties. art. VI. Since our instructors, have contributed so much to the success of the Institute. Be it rsolved , that we extend to them our thanks.

The Great Wakarusha Drainage Scheme.
Surveryors Dunn and J. E. Alter, with their corps of assistants last Sat, completed’ the preliminary survey of the prososed Wakrusha or Big Slough ditch, or more properly, drainage • scheme, and this week will present their report to the County Commissioners. Although it does not begin to equal the proposed Iroquois and Pinkamink ditch, it is,lcy far, much larger than any ditch ever constructed wholly, or in part in Jasper county, and lias a good prospect of being carried to completion, which can hardly be said of the Iroquois ditch, at present. The main line of the ditch fro m its head in White Co. to its outlet in the Iroquois River' below Rensselaer, is 16 miles and 1993 feet in length.Q The length of the laterals, 17 in num her, sub-laterals, spurs &c: as surveyed and reported upon, is nearly 62£ miles, giving a total length of the whole system of over 784 miles. The proportion of miles of the ditch in Jasper and White counties has not been accurately figured out but one of the surveyors thinks that at least nine tenths of the ditch is in Jasper county. The extent of country to be drained by the whole system is estimated at 40,000 acres. A meeting of petitioners and others likely to be affected, will be held in the court house at I o’clock, next Saturday, to discuss the ditch and, suggest possible amendments to the viewer’s report.
