Death of Mrs. Elvira Peacock.
The following account of the death and funeral of Mrs. Elvira Peacock, wife of Hon. Joseph Peacock, of Lincoln, N. Y., and the oldest brother of the venerable Jonathan Peacock, of Rensselaer, is condensed from the Monroe County Mail, of Fairport, N. Y. Mrs. Elvira Peacock, wife of Joseph Peacock, died at her home in Lincoln, Friday, July 10th, aged 82 years. Mrs. Peacock has passed over fifty years of her life in total blindness, haying, when a young matron, fallen into a fireplace, burning her face in a terrible manner. Possessing a cheerful, Christian spirit, she has borne all of her trials meekly, fully believing that the hand of a loving father sent them. She has raised a family, onty one of which she has ever seen. Her husband and children who have so untiringly cared for her nil this time have the consolation of knowing that she fully appreciated and thanked, them for it all. For the past year Mrs. P. has been entirely helpless from paralysis, but her trials are all passed, and she now views “the King in his beauty,” whom she has so faithfully served. The surviving family consists of her aged husband, five sons and one daughter, Charles L., of Fairport, George H., of Webster, Jerome R., of Lincoln, Oscar H., of Rochester, Fred A., of Lyons, and Mrs. Franc A., wife of Dr. Robert Morris, of West Walworth. The funeral services were held at the house on Sunday. The sermon was preached by Rev. Hiram Whitcher, of Brockport, who has been her life-long friend and former pastor, and who baptized her sixty years ago. The bearers were her sons and son-in-law. —jy :
