A PROMINENT CHEROKEE.

Death of Senator floss of the Cherokee Nation. A special from Tahlequalh, I. T., on tho 21st says: The Cherokee Nation is mourning for the death of her leading statesman, â– Senator W. H. Ross, who died very suddenly yesterday morning of heart disease, at.his home in Fort Gibson. Senatar Ross was a half-breed, about 68 years old, and was educated at Princeton College by his uncle, Chief John Ross. Ho entered public life at the age of twentytwo, and [has held almost every office in the gift, of the nation, from Chief down He was Lieutenant-colonel during the war in the Confederate army. He was a brilliant orator and a lehderof the National party.
