From GUlam Township Harvesting and haying are the latest here. / The young folks of Gilhun, to the number of about 60, enjoyed a very pleasant time together last Wednesday evening, at T. H. Robinson’s place. Ice-cream, cake, lemonade, pop-corn and peanuts were served. An ice-cream festival will be given next Saturday evening, at Independence, for the purpose of repairing the church. The Epworth League at Independence, starts out in its new work with promises of success. Temperance meetings are still in vogue at West Vernon Schopl house. A grand and noble work is being dime at that place. The Misses Collins, of Winamac, were the guests of Thos. Robinson’s family last week. A Gillamite.

From Wheat field. Wheat and rye all cut and several of our farmers have begun haying. Prospects for corn better than has been since the flood. Laud Wallace is making preparations to build a fine dwelling in Wheatfield. H. - Marble, of Crown Point, is spending a few days in our town. R. Bacon, who has been spending the Spring and Summer at Crown Point,' was called home last week to attend the sickness and burial of his daughter. Jacob Melser fined three dollars and cost last Tuesday, by Squire Graves for striking Frank Nichols, at the Alliance Meeting at Kniman June ~2Uth, To-much red eye is supposed to be the cause of the trouble. - M. Algrim has the contract of repairing the bridge on the river grade, that was burnt a few weeks ago by some fishermen. The Austin Bros, have the contract of putting up the hay on the Marble Ranch, northwest of Wheatfield. They began work last week. . Miss AbbieKeen,of Foresman, has been visiting friends of this place. John Tilton met with'quite a misfortune while going to DeMotte to celebrate the 4th. His team got fright ened and threw him from the bugg y and then ran about f of a mile, and was stopped by Mr. Pier. The buggy was all torn to pieces and strung all along the road. Neither Jack or the team was hurt. Harmon Clark has been very sick with the typhoid fever, and is still in a dangerous condition. Mr. Taylor’s girl has also been very sick but is slowly recovering.
