The surety of the peace case against the Rude family, a part of whom hare beenliving in elegant retirement in the Hotel De Blue for some months past, was tried Tuesday, by a jury. James and George, |the father and son, were released, but Mrs. Rude was put under bonds of 125 to keep the peace for one year. Tom McCoy has developed such genius for driving4n handling the rihbons behind the Stock Farm’s fast trotters that the boys have named him “Splan.” As an instance of his ability to get the go out of a horse, he drove Douglas Girl a mile in Tuesday, which was very fast for her. Tom’s “Governor” is still able to give him points on a ten mile-dash with a pair livery plugs, though. The County is still without a County Assessor. Harvey W. W6od, whom the Commissioners appointed without his knowledge or consent, has decided that he can not, consistently with his own interests, undertake the onerous duties of the new office. He has all be can well do looking after his farm, and besides that his health is far from good. Mr. Victor E. Willey, the enterprising and popular junior partner in he firm of Willey & Son, and Miss. Nellie O’Donnel, a most estimable and attractive young lady well known in Rensselaer, were married yesterday at the Servite Church, in Chicago. The happy couple came to Rensselaer on the first train, and are already located at housekeeping, in rooms over C.C Stair’s store. A considirable party of relatives and friends attended the wedding, from Rensselaer
The Slock Farm’s brag trotter, Leo, will make a big rciSSWr-'tOT" himself this season, if no had luck befalls him. He is already able to make a full mile in 2:25 over the slow track at the Farm and without special urging, and this he did last Thursday, in the presence of quite a number of careful observers. But if he should get a record under 2:20 this season, it would not be surprising.
Married, Wednesdoj% June 17, 1891, at noon, Mr. John C. Porter and Miss Carrie Irwin, at the residence of the bride’s uncle, Mr. Elias Watts, ~ at Indianapolis, Ind, The bride and groom are among Rsnsse'aer’s best known and most esteemed people/ The bride has been, for several years, one-of the best teachers in the Rensselaer schools. She is a sister of Mr. James F. Irwin, our ever popular and ellieient county clerk. The groom is better known as “Cal” Porter. Is a most estimable man in all respects and “well fixed” financially. It is understood that the happy couple will make something of a western trip before returning to Rensselaer, visiting during thd trip the groom’s son, Charley, the telegraph operator, at Kansas City and his step-son, Willie Salter, in Kansas.
The action taken by the commissioners of Jasper and Porter counties, at their meeting atHammond, last Tuesday, although conditional to a certain degree, is likely to result iu the Building of the new bridge over the Kankakee river, northeast of De Motte. The Jasper county commissioneis proposed to pay half of the cost of the river bridge, proper, also to bridge all the water-ways in thej approaches on the Jasper county side, and to contribute S3OO towards the cost of the said, approaches; all under condition ] that the property owners mainly interested will bear the expense of the ap-
proaches in excess of the S3OO. The agent of Nelson Morris, the chief landholder of that region, was present and said the proposition of the Commisioners would be accepted. On the part of the Porter county commissioners, they will propose to pay their half of the cost of the bridge provided that Boone township will build the approaches upon that side; and this the _ township trustee agreed to do. It is therefore reasonably certain that the bridge will be built. ,
