Fecundity of Fish. It is said that between 60,000,000,000 and 100,000,000,000 codfishes are taken from the sea around the shores of Newfoundland every year. But even that quantity seems small when we consider that over 8,000,000 have been found in the roe of a single cod. A herring of six or seven ounces in weight is provided with 30,000,000 ova.
