Rensselaer Republican, Volume 23, Number 37, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 14 May 1891 — THE TOWN BOARD [ARTICLE]
THE TOWN BOARD
Monday night was regular Town Board meeting night. All the members were present, outgoing as well as incoming. Councilman Morlan, one of the former, applied for his walking ticket under the name of the grand bumper degree, it being his conceit to consider the Board as a lodge of the Knights of Pythias, in jocular allusion to the fact that all the new members happen to belong to that popular order. . Messrs C. C. Starr. M. L. Warren and C. G. Spitler filed their various bonds as treasurer, marshal and clerk, respectively, which were accepted by the Board. The ne w or re-elected members of the Board, Messrs Warner, Ellis and Wood worth, were qualified and took their places as full fledged members. The Board organized by electing J. R. Vanatta president. The following standing committees were appointed: On Finance, Ellis, Warner, Harririson. On Fire,Warner, Ellis, Woodworth. On streets, Woodworth, Warner, Vanatta. The salary of the town health officer was reduced from S4O per year to sl2. Some 33 bills were passed upon and allowed. A large portion of these were on account of the election. Dr. F. P. Bitters was appointed secretary of the Town Board of Health. A special meeting will be held next Monday night, to make the tax levies.
