Just received this week from Chicago a full and complete line of Millinery and fancy goods at Hemphill and Honan’s. . Quite a heavy fall of snow occurred ih this section, last Sunday night. All of it vanished during Monday, however.

Mr. and Mrs. Berry Paris were .called to Xenia, last week, by the dangerous sickness of their daughter Mrs. Lydia Kimball, but who is now reported much better. Alter have issued invitation cards for the wedding of their daughter, Miss Ollie, to Mr. Hugh L. Gamble of St. Louis. The happy event will take place on the evening of Wednesday April 22nd. Dr. Alter was called out into the region of Blackford Sunday afternoon to attend David Haste, a young man of about 17 or 18 years of age, who was thrown from rs horse that day and had his right wrist dislocated, and one of the bones of the right fore-arm broken; The ground-hog’s winter odght to have ended the 16th of March, but We suspect that the stupid and omary critter slept over his regular day for beginning business and di d not begin to get in his work u ntil about four weeks after the proper time, j hence the continuance of the groundhog weather so late in the season.

The suit was evidently only a little spitework against President Breyfogle. See what Hammond Bros. The frightfully bad Weather has given the Rensselaer Creamery a temporary set back, as very little milk is now brought in. Mather, a life-long.friend of the editor of The REPUBLican and a gentleman who has visited Rensselaer on several occasions and made here a number of business and social acquaintances, died March 25th, at his home at Auburn Park, 111., of pneumonia, in his 37th. year. He was a most estimable man. He is in charge of a branch office of the Makeever Bros.’ law and loan business, at Denver, is finding it a fine place to live and is making “scads” of money.

Miss Arilla Cotton came home from Chicago Saturday to recuperate after her long vigils by her sister, Mrs. Della Thompson’s sick bed. The latter is still very slowly improving. The services at the M. The Little Trixie Company played in the Opera House Tuesday night to a very large house. Their performance was just what they represented it to be, and very good of its kind—a comic Rev. 1.1. Gorby will be publicly installed pastor of the Presbyterian church of Rensselaer, on Wednesday' evening, April 15th, at 7:30. To this service the people of the city are most cordially invited by the pastor and church. We make buttons to match any kind of dress goods and on short notice. J. H. Willey & Son. Last Saturday an inch or two of frozen ground, above an unknown depth of mad, made the most impassible roads of the whole winter, and at the time of day when the public hitch chains arc usually full of teams on ordinary Saturdays, only one solitary vehicle could be seen there. The house of William McCullough, in the southern part of Jordan tp., was burned last Sunday evening, with nearly all its contents. There was no one at the house at the time except Mr, ’and Mrs. McCullough, who arc quite an elderly couple, and they saved but little more than the clothing they were wearing. The logs on house and contents was about SI,OOO with no insurance. The fire seems to have originated in a defective flue, in the roof.

Molmey, Veterinary Surgeon, of Goodland, graduate of Ontario Veterinary College, will visit Rensselaer, Monday, Aiwil 20th, prepared to do any work pertaining to the veterinary science, including rnlgling castrating and dentistry. According to one section of the ; new dog law, any dog that is found roaming about the country unattended by his owner is a “runabout” dog, and it is lawful for any one to kill it, and no exception is made in the law in favor of registered dogs; yet the very next section declares that any person who shall kill any registered dog is guilty of a misdemeanor and can be fined in any sum not exceeding SIOO, and in this section no exception is made in the case the slain registered dog be a “runabout.” • The Democratic brethren had another of their “large andjenthusiastic” town conventions at the court house last Saturday night, although it required long and diligent, search on the part of The Republican to find any member of the party who would admit that he was present. Finally John Chilcote acknowledged .that he was there and said that the attendance was large—for the size of the crowd. A full ticket was nominated, for once, as following? For Clerk, Jerry Healy; for Teasurer,Ben Tutuer; for Marshal, Jno. Ramey; for Councilman second district, W. R. Nowels; for Councilman, third district, E. P. Honan. In the fifth district, there being no Democrat to be nominated, they did the next thing to it by nominating a Prohibitions!, S. A Henry, for Councilman.
