We Had An Earthquake!

Yesterday afternoon'about 2:50 P. M., just as we were preparing to go to press, the town of Rensselaer was severely shaken by what was, un--dbabteflly an earthquake shoektv Houses shook and rattled in all parts of the town; and in most of the business houses the people inside ran out into thestreets, to see what was the matter, thinking is was something to their own liliildings;" That the shock was a veritable earthquake, there is very litte doubt, although jx-ssibly situs great explosion sums vb.ere might have caused the concussion, or perhaps the passage of an immense meteor—and this last supposition is made the- more reasonable from the fact that a good ■ many that a short but heavy sound accompanied the shock.
