The Masonic order of this place assisted the brethren in Wolcott to lay the cornerstone of a Baptist church in that place. Jt is said that our worthy township Trustee Mr. W. O. Roadifer and his family will soon take up their abode in Bemington. The youDg people of this place* celebrated Halloween by giving a party in the school-house- on Ohio Spreet, with supper at Peffleys restaurant. A good time is reported The unhinging of gates, overturning of out buildings, and the change of base for all removable property followed as a matter of course during the night and kept the small boys busy. The Methodist ladies fed the hungry voters, election day but the amount of luere realized is not yet known to your correspondent. Squire Lewis living between this place and Bensselaer occupied ! the M. E. pulpit last Sunday evening. Mr Lewis is a local preacher of that denomination. Occurrences like that related in the Press last week, which refers to some young people of Bensselaer, makes a person wish that all men regardless of all other political Creeds, would join heart and soul, and vote 0 for prohibition. The Tariff law question which has been agitated so much during the campaign sinks into nothingness when compared to the dreadful tax that liquor levies on our bravest and best.
Mrs. O. Landon and Miss Imogene, mother and sister of Dr. Landoh arrived Saturday evening and will take up their permanent residence with the Dr. and his family. Ohauucey Landon accompanied his grandmother and aunt and after voting a straight republican ticket he will return to his work at Kokomo. He has a pleasant and lucrative position as telegrapher in that city. The new book case purchased with the proceeds of the Merchants Carnival given by the high school ai rived on Monday. It is large handsome and substantial. By the time this letter is in print the election will be over and the long anxiety ended. Preparations were all made according to the requirements of the law and it will be almost an impossibility to cast any fraudulent votes. Hon. George Major, wife and son returned last Thursday from a very pleasant visit in Dallas Texas. They were the guests of Mrs Major’s son a physician in the city The report a fine warm climate, but no farming land equal to that of Indiana,.in fact for anybody.
