Kindly Compliments and Sound Suggestions.
The following (Jomments on Rensselaer are extracted from Bro. Landis excellent account of the Congressional convention, in his, paper the Delphi Journal. His compliments are pleasant and. his suggestions regarding our streets, especially 4n the business portionsjtff the town, are eminently sound, ana give the added force of an able and disinterested observer’s opinion to what The Republican has urged so many times, in this respect. The following is from the Journal: Rensselaer was decorated in holiday 7 attire for the occasion, and the hotels were taxied to thgir utmost to accommodate the visitors. But they were equal to the occasion and all who attended the convention left with pleasant recollections. '
The business part ot Rensselaer is sadly behind the resident portion of the place. Indeed, few small cities in Indiana can boast of as many beautiful residences ae are to be found in Rensselaer. They are large and commodious and architecturally are from modern metropolitan mould. . And then the people up there appear to consider that there is enough land in this country to justify i-very house holder in surrounding liimself with a lawn. As a result nearly every house is ornamented and made beautiful with a bro’ad, sweeping lawn. And these lawns give evidence of constant attention, If the people of Rensselaer were to place a stone crusher in their river, break up the rock and with it build streets they' wpuld find themselves living in one of most attractive cities in Tndiana. Their town is laid out in suCha way as to make- well macadamized streets [ show off to fine advantage. Those 1 who attended the convention and remained in the business part of the city camo away from the convention feeling sorry for residents iof Resselaer. Those who walked : about under the shade of number- ! less trees,- viewing the beautiful residences and pretty lawns felt (That ibmssciaer End fallen far snort <-.f getting credit from the ■ world at large for many its beauties ■ and advantages. ’
