THE GREENBACKERS AND UNION LABOR

Hold a Conference and Issne a Call for a Convention. The Greenbackers and Union Labor party of Indiana held a conference at. Indianapolis, Wednesday, .the 27th inst., with the view of uniting thoir forces into one party and to issue a call for a State nominating convention. Each faction was fairly represented, and after considerable discus, sion a committee from each on consolidation was selected. At a joint meeting of these committees, J. Y. Demaree was elected Chairman aDd William P-. Smith and E. S. Pope Secretaries. It waß agreed by this conference that it recommend the union of the Union Labor party and the Natiopal Greenback party of the State of Indiana on the platform of principles adopted by the St. Louis convention, and that the two committees here represented be thereafter dissolved and the two parties merged into one. It was recommended by this conference that the plow be adopted as the emblem by which to distinguish tho ticket nominated at the proposed convention, and that farmer and labor organizations be requested to employ this emblem in advertising conventions, mass meetings and picnics, and that the meeting of the proposed convention be advertised by means of posters bearing an impression of tho proposed emblem- in order to familiarize the voters with the appearance of the new ticket before the time of the election. At a subsequent meeting of the two conventions the recommendations of the two conference* were unanimously adopted. On motion J. Y. Demcree was elected permanent chairman, William P. Smith secretary and B. S. Pope treasurer, to hold their respective offices until the con Vention should elect their successors.

An assessment of S3O to the district was ordered, and a committee of two for each congressional district was appointed to raise funds to carry on the campaign. On motion, each member of this conference, upon his return home, will send the name of proper persons of their various districts to the secretary In order that posters announcing announcing the call for the convention may be properly dis tributed throughout the State, and thefoi lowiug call was issued;

The Union Labor and Greenbackers having met in conference and adopted the platform of the Farmers’ Alliance and K. of L. as adopted at St. Louis as a basis for a call, we hereby call upon and invite the Farmers’ Alliance, F. M. B. A., grangers and all other farmer organizations, the K. of L., and all labor organizations to seleo one delegate for each twenty-five members or fraction thereof, and we also call on al organizations,-Union Labor or voters to call meetings and select one dele gate for each twentx-dve or fraction thereof from each township and each ward, to meet at Indianapolis at Iff o’clock on the 24d of September to putin nomination a full State ticket, formulate a platform, select a State committee and name the party that will unite all the reformers and move in solid column against the com mon enemy—the Democratic and Republican parties.
