Where Bathing is Unfashionable.

Ladles’ Home Journal. It is no longer fashionable to bathe in the surf at Newport. Madame Haut Ton discovered that it was possible to meet her neighbor's maid in the water, and then, too, she came in contact with the summer tourists, whom she regards as very undesirable to know, so she concluded that surfbathing must no longer be recognized in “our set.” The people in bathing are usually those who do not care for the opinion of the fashionable world, or those from the hotels. Hotel life is not interesting. Unlike some of the other summer places, life does not center in the great caravansaries; and so unless one has an extensive acquaintance among the Newport people, it is extremely stupid to he at a hotel.
