We Will Celebrate
The Initiatory Proceedings- Well-Under Way. Rensselaer will celebrate the anniversary of our Nation’s existence, this year, and in a manner, as we have no doubt, that will fully sustain and even add to the high repu r tation in that particular, achieved by our phenomenally successful celebration of last year. The initiatory proceedings are now well under way. Monday evening a large public meeting was held in the court house, at winch it was unanimously and enthusiastically resolved to have a big celebration. Committees on arrange- 1 ments and finance were appointed, and at a meeting held Tuesday afternoon the committee on arrangements! proceeded to appoint the other necessary committees. The following is the complete list of committees:

The following gentlemen have been unanimously chosen as special organizers to organize delegations in their respective townships for the occasion and the two largest delegations' to receive handsomd prizes: Newton, John Sayler; Jordan, Wm Essen; Milroy, Washington Scott; Hanging Grove, Fred Zard; Barkley, Harry Murray ; Gillain, James R. Guild; Keener, C. O. Spencer; Union, J. E. Alter; Kankakee, I. D. Dunn; Wheatfield, Leon Skaffner. All members of committees will meet at the Town Hall, to-morrow (Friday) evening at 8 o’clock.

There was only f <me jury ease likely to he tried, ami the parties it-befofe the court-. . The trial of Marion Canfield, accused of robbing John T. Culp’s house, vas continued to the October term, owing to the absence of a witness for the defense. The grand jury, in session since Monday afternoon, completed their work yesterday, and were dismissed.
A “Hickory Rad” and an “Animus.” Motion Times. On last Saturday morning Lue Deer, armed herself with a hic-kery gad, ahd started out with the intentioh of giving Marion Jacks a cowEidmg for some slanderous talk, which she claims hfe is guilty - of defiling her good name, Marion had just gone to work here in the Monon yards, and did not see her animus until! :-!ic was within a few feet of him. and seeing that she had blood in her eye, be broke out at 2:40 gate down the track, with her animus in close pursuit. Marion did not check for mud or water, Hut plunged through with all nerve and vh., and alter at home under the bed, and he has not showed up since. If a few more * foul mouth individuals were served the same way it would be a blessing to the eomnnity.
