Miss Mary Johnson, of the Neat Castle public schools, made a visit of several days duration with her friend and former school-mate, Mrs. VV. H. Coover. J. F. Warren, our County Superintended t, and alsoSecietary of the Ind. 8. 8. Union was in town last Friday and Saturday’ holding an examination for graduates. It is not speaking well for our country scho >ls *o say that there was but oiiu applicant, but such was the fact. John Green, son of Edward Gree a, being the only one. 11 can very easily be explained though, by stating that nearly all of the mure advanced pupils of the township are attending the town schools. ~———— Mrs. Walter Rich, of Kankakee, 111., is visiting relatives and friends in this place for a few days. Miss Anna Harper is taking a rest and a course of treatment for rheumatism, at Camerou Springs. The men employed at the sand stone quarry struck for higher wages, U&t Friday, and were promptly and summarily discharged by manager Smith, who says he will have no foolishness of that kind about him. It is now expected that a crusher will be put in out at the quarry that will give employment to eight or ten more men. Let the good work go on. Fred Griffin, a resident of this place (Turing his boyhood, but now 1 on the staff of the “Drovers Journal” of New York City, is visiting I relatives and many friends in this ■ town and vicinity.
