Barkley News.
Roads are bad. The farmers are beginning to talk about sowing oats —when not talking to a candidate. Wheat generally looks bad. J. E. F. Payne has quite a flattering prospect for fall biscuits. J. F. Iliff is erecting a large and commodious barn. The North Lawn school closed the 21st inst. The school has been a grand success, and Miss Millie Robinson, the teacher, deserves much credit for her efficiency. The South Lawn school closed on the 22nd, and to show their approval of Mr. Postiirs work, the patrons came in wagons, buggies and on foot, bringing a good supply of first class provisions with them. It is needless to say that the young ladies turned out, en masse, to grace the occasion. Everybody felt it was well for them to be there. Barkley is a good place for old bachelors and old maids. Some are going west and getting marrieed, and the rest of us are talking about going too. John Jill.
