A Big Ditch.

Winamac Republican. ■ ■ At the present session the county commissioners have ordered that portion of the big Monon ditch which runs through Pulaski county. The portions of the ditch which traverse. Jasper and White counties are probably by this time ordered by the boards of those counties now in session. In the three counties the diteh traverses the Monon twenty-three miles, seventeen and a half miles of it being in Pulaski county. The average excavating to be done is fifty yards to the rod. This gives an idea of the enormous amount of dirt to be thrown before the work is completed, the work will be sold by the county auditor, to give the owners of all lands' affected, an opportunity to buy up the work affecting their lands. The entire cost of the work, at a fair estimate, will not fall short of SIB,OOO. W. C. Bennett, J. G. Burke and J. G. Boples have been appointed viewers for Pulaski county. Thd value of this drainage to the west side of this county cannot be calculated. It will make fertile farms out of hundreds of acres which are now nothing more than marshes and swamps.
