Jl. 181 Pearl st.. New York. Expressive. The Boston Budget reports an anecdote of a little girl who is very fond of walking with her father. One day he went farther than usual, and she began to grow tired. She did her utmost to conceal the fact, lest it should make her father indisposed to take her with him on on future occasions. At last her lagging steps betrayed her to her father’s watchful eye. Even then, however, she parried his questions, and could not be brought to admit her weakness, till he drew her into a trap. “Well, Lillie, if you don’t feel tired, tell me just how you do feel,” “Oh, I’m not much tired, papa,” answered the diplomatic little girl, “but I feel as if I would like to take my legs off and carry ’em awhile.”

New Use of Electricity. The Philahelphia & Reading- railroaa company has recently been experimenting with an electric device to increase the friction of locomotive wheels upon the track and prevent slipping. A low tension current, generated by a small dynamo, is passed from the front driving wheel to the track, and from the track again to the back wheel. It is said that the effect of this current is more marked than that of sand sprinkled on the track, and that experiments have fully proved its value. Needed Thrashing. “I has smashed my finger,” howled a boy, running into the room where his mother was sitting. ‘■Which finger?” asked the mother. “I have forgot,” said the child, as he stopped cryjng. “Wait till Igo hack and find out.” When he “found out” he went back into the house and yelled for half an hour, and his poor mother didn’t have sense enough to thrash him.
