AN IMPORTANT DECISION.

Supreme Court of the United States, on tbe 3d, rendered an opinion affirming the constitutionality of the Edmunds Tucker Idaho test oath, intended to prevent Mormons froto voting. The case came upon an application for a writ of b*> beas corpus, made by Samuel B. Davis who is in jail in Idaho, having been sentenced for unlawfully taking the pro scribed test oath when he was a member of the Mormon Church. The court denies the application for a writ of habeas conpus, holding that polygamy is a crime, and that the constitutional provision guaranteeing freedom of religion is not intended to punishment of any person who. in the name of religion, commits a crime in the eyes of tho law,
