Ckeadle, of the Ninth Indiana district, has introduced a bill to repeal the civilBenice law. Of course, even if the law is repealed, it will not bo Oh radio’s bill that does it, but introducing the bill is a cheap way to get a little notoriety.
Congressman Owen was one of the heaviest losers by the defalcation of Silcott, the Democratic reformer who was cashier of the House, but for all that he voted against the proposition to appropriate the money from the treasury to recoup the members for their losses. There are very few members of the House of Representatives, of no longer service than Mr. Owen of this district, whose ceive greater recognition than his. His appointment by Speaker Reed to the chairmanship of an important committee, that on Immigration and Naturalization, is indubitable evidence of that fact. It is not the only evidence however, for there Agere few young members of the last Congress who received so laige a share of respectful public attention as he did.
