NEW ASSOCIATE JUDGE.

The' President Wednesday appointed Judge David J. Brewer, of Kansas, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ho is one of the best known men in Kansas, having served the State in many important trusts, lately as a member of the Supreme Court, which position he has held since 1870. He was born in Smyrna, Asia Minor, in 1837, his father being a missionary to the Greeks in Turkey. His mother was the sister of Cyrus W. Field. He graduated at Yale in 1350.
